The east facet of Fort Price is now house to one in all Fort Price’s longest-running barbecue joints.
Sausage Shoppe, which has been in business for nearly three decades, has moved into a brand new location at 6513 Brentwood Stair Street.
Native barbecue aficionados ought to acknowledge that tackle: The tiny brick constructing was as soon as house to Wilson’s BBQ, probably town’s one and solely 24-hour barbecue spot. Extra lately, it housed Huge Boyz BBQ, which made a reputation for itself with stellar smoked rooster salad.
Outfitted with a drive-thru window, the shop caters primarily to to-go orders, though there’s a small eating space inside.
Sausage Shoppe is well-known for its namesake dish, made by hand day by day in pork, beef and a mix of the 2. Proprietor Alandres Chambers is tight-lipped in regards to the recipes, which have been developed by his mother and father, Ivy and Mary Chambers, who opened the unique retailer on East Seminary practically 30 years in the past.
Through the years, Sausage Shoppe has bounced from one locale to a different. Its final location, at 3329 Alta Mesa Blvd., is now occupied by R&R Soul Meals, which Fort Price Journal featured in its January issue.
After closing the Alta Mesa retailer, Chambers considered getting out of the restaurant enterprise – a thought that lasted, he says, oh, a few day.
“I assumed I used to be going to retire,” he says. “However retirement’s not for me, at the very least not but. We closed the Alta Mesa retailer on a Friday and commenced to open on Brentwood Stair the next Monday. How’s that for retirement?”
Whereas previous iterations of Sausage Shoppe have supplied massive menus of barbecue, soul meals and Americana dishes, the menu on the new retailer focuses solely on barbecue. Along with sausage, there’s brisket, pork ribs, smoked bologna, rooster, and sides resembling corn, inexperienced beans, and mac and cheese.
“That’s what the menu was like when my mother and father opened it,” Alandres Chambers says. “I wished to get again to these roots and doing what we do finest.”
